Autism Hampshire is proud to provide the trainers for the Oliver McGowan Tier 2 training, commissioned by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust on behalf of The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board.
This important training program is designed for health and social care staff, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective, compassionate support to autistic individuals and people with learning disabilities.
The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death highlighted the need for health and social care staff to have better skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs for autistic people and those with a learning disability.
The Oliver McGowan training focuses on improving understanding and practice around being autistic and learning disabilities, ultimately aiming to enhance the quality of care provided to those we support.
The training will be delivered face to face and each session will be run by a trio of experts including a facilitator and two trainers. These trainers will be autistic individuals or people with learning disabilities, ensuring that the training benefits from their lived experiences.
This training is available to all NHS and social care staff within the commissioned areas. If you are interested in attending, please speak to your line manager for more information on how to enroll.
By participating in this training, you can play a vital role in fostering a more inclusive and supportive environment for individuals with autism and learning disabilities.
