Employee of the month – Reducing isolation in autistic adults

Autism Hampshire is proud to shine a spotlight on our latest Employee of the Month – Rich Walker, Serendipity Coordinator at Autism Hampshire.

Rich joined the team in July 2024 and has already made a lasting impression through his incredible work with our Serendipity Community Groups.

These groups offer safe, welcoming spaces – both in-person and online – where autistic adults can meet, connect, and find peer support.

The nomination for Rich came from the Group Business Development Director who said: “Rich has stepped up to cover the majority of the Serendipity Community Groups, working extra hours and taking on significant additional responsibility.

“Without him we simply wouldn't have been able to carry on! He has only worked for us since summer 2024 but since this time has become an integral and valuable team member.”

A personal connection to autism

Rich’s journey with Autism Hampshire began before he joined the team. In 2022, he took part in the Great South Run to raise funds for the charity, inspired by his personal experiences as a parent of two autistic boys.

Today, he combines his personal insight with professional passion, working every day to promote understanding, break down stigma, and celebrate the uniqueness of autistic people.

Rich said: “I meet wonderful people who’ve often felt isolated until attending our meetings. It’s amazing to see them gain confidence through our inclusive and non-judgemental spaces.

“My boys inspire me every day, and I feel proud to be part of something that’s helping to create positive change.”
