Nominated for their compassion and commitment, we’re proud to announce Autism Hampshire’s latest employees of the month are Kim Goatcher and Maxine Cheshire.
Kim and Maxine, both work hard supporting people in Petersfield and have made a significant impact on their lives. Their work extends beyond day-to-day care as they create opportunities for social connection, creativity, and joy.
Going above and beyond
The nomination from their manager also pointed out Kim and Maxine’s reputation for organising fantastic arts and crafts sessions, hosting parties, and even building a Christmas grotto - often in their own time - to provide incredible experiences for the people Autism Hampshire supports.
A love for the Job
Kim and Maxine’s passion for their work is clear in everything they do.
"How many 80-year-olds do you know who can say they have been flying?" Maxine said. "It's all about giving people the best life ever and making them achieve things they never thought they could. We can do that. We just don’t hold back."
Both of them worked in retail before they moved into their current roles and, for Kim, her passion started after she came to volunteer.
“I was always made to feel welcome and enjoyed getting to know everyone. The rest is history. I grew in my role and secured the senior role when it became vacant," said Kim. “I feel that we give the people we support a varied and good outlook on life with lots of opportunities to try new things, they are always happy to engage and love to do lots of things.
“We have a good team and work well together - my job wouldn't be the same without the support of my manager and staff team. I am always thankful to have them share my enthusiasm for things we achieve as a service.
“I must say that I was overwhelmed to find out I had received the employee of the month award. It was a lovely surprise which made us both very emotional. It was so nice to have recognition for all the hard work we do in the service - not only in our work hours but our own time as well. We love what we do.”
Creativity and dedication
Max added: “Even if we can’t do it, we give it a jolly good go. We always ask, how can we adapt it? How can we support you? The smiles on their faces when they have achieved something - it’s all so worthwhile. That’s why I absolutely love this job so much. It’s the excitement of coming to work and making a difference.”
Kim has worked at the service in Petersfield for 15 years and Maxine has just reached her six year anniversary.
Maxine remembers her passion developed when she used to help out at a disco for people with additional needs at Petersfield Social Club.
“I am still doing everything I can to make their lives the best they can ever have. The love in this house is just unreal. It’s a really nice family community. I absolutely, wholeheartedly, love the people we work for. They are just beautiful people with such different personalities.”
Thank you
A big well done and thank you to Kim and Maxine whose recognition is well deserved!
