Southampton’s First Neurodiversity Hub Hosts Successful Open Day

24th October 2024

Colleagues from SASS, Solent Mind, Speaking Space and Autism Hampshire gather at the open day under a balloon arch.

The hub in Southampton supporting neurodiverse adults, their families, and professionals welcomed people through its doors this week for its first ever open day.

The Neurodiversity Connections Hub, in Bitterne, is currently being piloted as a centre for local organisations to come together under one roof to support people with a neurodiversity such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other cognitive variations.

Funded by Southampton City Council and managed by Autism Hampshire, the hub’s located in Bitterne’s precinct opposite Lloyds Bank.

Our Service Manager, Katie Board, said: “We launched the hub back in January and it took off straight away with some really amazing charities using the space including our own Information, Advice and Guidance team.

“We now have four charities holding regular meetings and workshops providing support for autistic and neurodivergent adults across Southampton.

“It’s a really welcoming space which is part of the community so we’re glad people got the opportunity to see this first hand at the open day.”

At the open day individuals, families and professionals were all welcomed into the hub for a chance to discover the wide range of support and services available.

Organisations currently using the Neurodiversity Connections Hub include Autism Hampshire's Information, Advice and Guidance service, Southampton Autism Support Service (SASS), No Limits, and Speaking Space. Solent Mind also use the hub for its Lighthouse service.

Councillor Marie Finn, Cabinet Member for Adults & Health at Southampton City Council said: “I’m delighted that the Neurodiversity Connections Hub has held its open day this week. This will provide a safe and inclusive environment where residents can connect, learn, and grow.”
