Virgin Unite Local Legends Grant

2nd August 2024

Autism Hampshire has been awarded a grant from Virgin Unite's prestigious £1,000,000 Local Legends fund, thanks to one of our dedicated supporters. This fund is committed to supporting community-based charities across the UK that are tackling significant issues and making a positive impact in their communities.

Autism Hampshire was nominated for this grant by our incredible supporter Angus Grant, who ran the marathon for us earlier this year. Angus's dedication and commitment to our cause have been truly inspiring, and we are grateful for his continued support.

Head of Community Services for Autism Hampshire, Maxine Gibson, said, "Thanks to the generous £5,000 grant from the Virgin Unite Local Legends, Autism Hampshire will be able to support hundreds of autistic adults living in Hampshire. We will use this funding to provide safe and inclusive spaces for autistic adults to socialise and improve their mental health and wellbeing. This includes our fortnightly Serendipity Community groups in 14 locations, online support groups, monthly masterclasses, and skill-based groups.

"It is only with the support, dedication, and perseverance of Local Legends like Angus, who nominated us for this grant, that we can deliver a range of community support services for autistic people in Hampshire. Together, we hope to reduce isolation and boost self-confidence among our members."

Virgin Unite Local Legends was launched to celebrate and support the hard work of community charities and the wonderful Virgin employees who volunteer for them. In this second round of funding, 33 charities have been selected to receive grants, addressing issues ranging from food poverty to mental health support for children and young people, and the empowerment of girls and young women.
