Enable Ability is established as an independent charity for the care, welfare and advancement of disabled people living in Portsmouth and the surrounding area. They work in partnership with disabled children and adults, their families and carers, to provide a range of high quality, professional and confidential services.

The charity provides 9 specific services comprising:

  1. Issue-based advocacy – including transitional support for teenagers in specialist and mainstream school settings
  2. Adult befriending – including targeted work with disabled young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET)
  3. Disability awareness presentations delivered to primary schools and local businesses by a group of disabled adults
  4. FACES ( ‘Families And Carers Extra Support’ ) – is a Child Befriending service for children with a moderate to severe disability.
  5. Partnership in Active Leisure Service (PALS) – offering a range of leisure and sporting activities to physically disabled children & young people
  6. A Saturday Club for children aged 5-16
  7. Summer play-scheme provision for children aged 5-18 (two specialist schemes to cover the full age range together with the employment of appropriately trained staff at 9 mainstream settings across the city)
  8. Umbrella body status for organisations wishing to process Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) disclosure applications
  9. Wheelchair-accessible minibus hire to local community organisations
