Child & Adolescent Autism Service - Solent NHS

The local community based service is accessible via a single point of access for all referrals for assessment and diagnosis of Autism in Southampton for children and young people up to 18. The Autism panel meets once a month when referrals are discussed and decisions made as to whether to assess, and what kind of assessment the child or young person needs. This is based on:

• Reported information from parents/carers and professionals about signs and/or symptoms of concern
• The referrer’s own observations
• Antenatal and perinatal history
• Developmental milestones
• Factors associated with an increased prevalence of autism
• Relevant medical history and investigations

The outcome of the panel decision will be relayed to the referrer and parents/carers by the case coordinator. This service takes referrals from professionals by post, fax or telephone.
